Discover how to use digital machines: a laser cuter, a 3D printer and create your unique game. Join us in the adventure of making games!
At Arctic Tern Game Lab, we believe in open source and do it together. We are committed to teach community in rural areas and small towns that don't have a Fab Lab yet how to use digital fabrication to create board games! Our mission is to stimulate creativity and reduce the digital gap.
We can create a custom escape box to tell your story in a unique way!
We can design and make a custom board game to carry your message!
We can create a custom treasure hunt for up to 50 persons playing at the same time for your team building events.
We believe in open source, bellow a list of games we documented on Instructables:
The goal of this game is to raise public awareness on co-creation of knowledge on micro plastic pollution in the Arctic involving local communities knowledge. This game took inspiration from research papers on Arctic pollution by (micro) plastics. In this game you will go on a science campaign to collect samples in the Arctic to gain knowledge on plastic distribution in the Arctic flore and fauna. You manage a crew of researchers, a captain and technical staff to collect samples and bring them to your research vessel and land laboratories
The goal of this board game is to raise public awareness on plastic pollution in the Arctic. This game took inspiration from the (real world ) program: The Ocean CleanUp but also from research papers on Arctic pollution. The Ocean Cleanup is a non-prot organization (NPO). They are developing and scaling technologies to rid the world's oceans of plastic.
During an 11 weeks maker residency at FabLab Skanderborg Denmark I was wondering what open source board game I could make. After some research I found this ancestor of chess!
Pitch of the game:
Asymmetrical two players game, the attackers team want to capture the king and the defenders team want the king to escape to one of the castle (one of the four corners of the board).
I made two new versions of my viking chess for a new laser I bought: the S1 from Xtool! I scaled down the first version (the pawns, the board and the storage box) I made to be able to fit on the laser bed. I also designed a new theme for the game: forest against concrete. The rule of the game are the same, but in this version, the attackers are the buildings and the defenders are the trees, the king is a sequoia!
